?Cook with your heart and think with feeling? That was Parwin Zamani?s first lesson when her mother taught her to cook. As customary in Afghanistan, girls learn the tricks of the trade from their mothers by helping out in the kitchen. All the recipes are passed on orally. In this book, Zamani describes the customs and traditions in Afghanistan throughout the period 1964 till 1993. It?s a journey through the country, visiting several provinces that once lay on the ancient Silk Road.



There are recipes for festive dishes and celebrations, and dishes for everyday meals. It sketches a picture of Afghanistan?s rich, exotic food culture. But it also tells a story; Parwin Zamani?s personal story in beautiful detail and laced with lively descriptions of the landscape, and culture of Afghanistan. But most of all, It documents an overview of delicious food and old family recipes.



Parwin Zamani used to work as an engineer in Kabul until 1993 Due to the violence of war; she was forced to flee the country taking only her children with her. Since 2000 she lives in the Netherlands and is actively engaged in providing a better framework for female education in Afghanistan.
